December is here and we will soon head off for our Holiday break. I want to close 2007 with an update

of some of our recent events/fundraising activities to keep our Kenwood families "in the loop" on the

PTSA's work. The PTSA and its officers, committee chairs, and members have been hard at work and a

big thank you to all who unselfishly support and gave of their time and energy. A special thank you to

Annie Ruiz, our Kenwood PTSA Treasurer, for being responsive, available, and a terrific Treasurer

for Kenwood. Annie has made my job as President easier and I appreciate her so much.

We raised approximately $41,000 from the Kathryn Beich fundraiser of which $20,000 is profit.

Our Fall Basket Auction was again a big success. We had lots of fun, and many parents, teachers,

and support staff took home some beautiful baskets and gifts. We made approximately $4,000.

Our Nike Race was indeed a first and a success for Kenwood. Again, thanks to Jackie Sparber for

her work. Through her efforts and energy, Kenwood took 1st place in participation at the race and

Nike will turn over to Kenwood's Physical Education approximately $4,000.

Our Kenwood Family Sponsors have contributed, to date, approximately $6,000. Our sign acknow-

ledging our sponsors is up, right at the main entrance. Stop by or drive by and see it.

These are some of our main fundraising efforts to date and we thank all of you who have been

        involved in making them happen.

The PTSA now has the Tile Wall fundraiser underway and you should have received the flyer. The

deadline for turning in your tile is around the corner, so get it in or see your child’s teacher if you

        haven't gotten one.

The PTSA has also provided many supporting contributions to our school to date. Among our

contributions are: carts to help with upkeep of the butterfly garden, Thanksgiving dinners for Ken

wood's needy families, holiday gift certificates to over 50 Kenwood support staff, paid for the Career

Day Luncheon, and rental chairs for the Upper Academy concert and the choir and recorder

ensemble for grades 3-5. Yes, we have been busy.............

As we look to 2008, first on the radar is our Winter Festival on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008. We

will be offering our Kenwood Families and/or businesses an opportunity to do some marketing

among us. We are extending to our Kenwood families/businesses an opportunity to SPONSOR A

RIDE. If you are interested in sponsoring a ride, e-mail me at navalaw@bellsouth.net.  Sponsoring a

ride will entitle the Kenwood Festival Sponsor to have a beautiful sign with your name or company

name placed in front of the venue sponsored. Your sponsorship will include increased exposure to the

East Kendall community. But more importantly, you benefit from knowing that you have contributed

to the success of our school and its students, your children. So if you are interested in sponsoring a ride,

e-mail me at the address above. The Festival will be great and well attended, as in past years.

In closing, I want to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy, and prosperous

     New Year.

     Kenwood PTSA President
